Background
Interferon-alpha (IFN-α) is a protein produced by the immune system in response to viral infections. It's a type of cytokine that's part of the innate immune response and has many biological functions, including:
1.Antiviral effects: IFN-α inhibits the replication of viruses in infected cells ;
2.Immunomodulatory effects: IFN-α enhances the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens and regulates cell differentiation ;
3.Cancer treatment: IFN-α is used to treat a number of tumors and is used in combination with other antiviral drugs ;
IFN-α is produced by leukocytes and binds to the IFN-α receptor (IFNAR). It's used to treat viral infections like hepatitis B and C, and a number of tumors. IFN-α is also used as a pharmaceutical drug called Multiferon, which is made from the leukocyte fraction of human blood.

Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay) Three samples of known concentration were tested twenty times on one plate to assess intra-assay precision.
Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays)
Spike Recovery
The spike recovery was evaluated by spiking 3 levels of human IFN-alpha into health human serum sample. The un-spiked serum was used as blank in this experiment.
The recovery ranged from 85% to 128% with an overall mean recovery of 98%.
